Based on the true Story of Rashida Strober
She’s been broke down, tore down, beat down, busted and disgusted. But Tandis Jamari still got a big dream and she just won’t let it go!
Throughout her short junior high and high school acting career Tandis was the recipient of numerous acting awards. Winning the prestigious Ruth Eckerd Hall Award for best actress while in high school, Tandis was on her way to the big time. The scholarship provided prestigious training, a spot in a national TV commercial and a talent agent.
The doors of opportunity were open for her to walk right on through. Only one person stood in her way. Her mother, Rubard. The life that Rubard created was that of abuse, neglect and poverty. Rubard refused to allow her to continue her ever budding and promising acting career.
The greatest blow came when Rubard refused to allow Tandis to take advantage of a performing arts scholarship she had won. Rubard’s financial unstableness led to the family (which included 5 brothers) becoming homeless on a regular basis.
After the family found a place to live Rubard chose her man over her children and ended up kicking her children out onto the streets.
Homeless again by the age of 14, Tandis’s life took an even more dreadful turn. She ended up in an abusive relationship with a man old enough to be her grandfather and endured beatings and two rapes.
Despite all that happened, Tandis continued to believe in her gift of acting.
This is the story of a woman who pulled herself up from the streets to become a college graduate, the owner of an ice cream truck business, known as the “Ice cream lady” and eventually a part-time college professor.
However, consumed with an insatiable desire to capture her childhood dream Tandis shows the epitome of tenacity as she simply refuses to give up on a career as an actor.
Its the American Dream out of the inner city experience!
